The 6 steps to improve your writing skills

Brainstorming: writing down many ideas

Just think what you will write about the room - what is in the room -objects -table, door windows, walls - any other things, - how the room appears - your feeling, - any other aspect of the room.- other ideas - your feeling about the room.

Outlining: organizing the ideas into a logical sequence

Put together the ideas and make an outline in sentences -

How is the room - shape and size - objectives in the room -persons in the room - chairs and table - bed - lights and -

How do things appear and are placed? - the chairs are placed along with the tables - look old ones - antique pieces - the mantelpiece at every corner - colourfully painted -yellow in colour - I find solace and peace here.

The room occupied by an elder - well organised and culturally rich - anyone would like to live here.

Room is not simply a place to live in-it is like our soul - keeping clear is essential and important.

Drafting: writer concentrates on the content of the message

Write the outlines into sentences and in a paragraph. Organise your ideas into some order -which comes first and which one comes later - you may add more ideas. This is your first draft.

The room in which I am sitting here is a spacious one with a lot of furniture and objects.  The is painted in yellow colour on the walls and white at the roof. There are nine chairs and three tables placed at the centre of the room. All the chairs and tables appear old with the artwork. The carving in the table and the chairs show that they are old ones and are costlier.  There are four mantelpieces- one in each corner. They appear to be old and full of artwork. I am surprised how a small room could have a lot of objects with the artwork.

Middle of the paragraph: The room looks like an ancient one and someone who lived here must have been a collector of antique things.  Any would feel happy about being there in the room. There is a feeling of solace in me as I am here. The antique lights there symbolise our culture and how the place of living is considered a sacred one.

End: The room is just not a room with objects and materials it is a place anyone would like to live in. This room also represents a typical Indian cultural heritage and the way life lived.

Revisions: revise the write-up

Now revise the first draft by adding ideas and rearranging ideas and sentences and improve the write-up. This makes the write-up coherent and better (Think what could be improved).

The room in which I am sitting here is a spacious one. The furniture and other objectives in the room tell that this is a traditional Indian household room. Yellow painted walls represent the goodness of the colour and expecting all blessing and good deeds by one and all.

I would like to make this a museum of Indian furniture and other objects.

End: The room is just not a room with objects and materials it is a place anyone would like to live in. This room also represents a typical Indian cultural heritage and the way life lived. A good photographer will have a lot to shoot and show the world that there is still a treasure to be revealed in an Indian home.

Proof-reading: correct the language and appropriateness of its use

Read the write-up carefully to check any grammar and spelling errors - revise the ideas and presentation. This stage is for language editing and making the paragraph organised. (Think of taking some ideas and sentences from middle to the end or even from introduction to other parts of the essay. Since this has to be written as a paragraph, try and make into one paragraph).
