Use of Pragathi Nota in English Nali-Kali Level 1 classroom

Introduction

In the previous articles of English Nali-Kali Level 1, we discussed many aspects of Listening and Speaking (L&S) and Reading and Writing (R&W). There are various segments and ways of teaching LS and RW sections.

But just teaching and enabling students to use English is not enough, marking the students' step-by-step learning progress is also very important. This record-keeping helps the teachers to understand students' level whether he/she has reached the required goal.

For marking the students' progress the teacher needs to have some standard procedures and formats. In the ENK Level 1, the process of marking students' progress is called Pragathi Nota.

In this article, I would like to take you through how Pragathi Nota of LS and RW sections' are used in the English Nali-Kali classroom.

Use of LS Pragathi Nota

LS Pragathi Nota

LS Pragathi Nota carries the milestone numbers, card numbers, and logos. The teacher conducts the L&S activities as per the schedule given in the Teacher Card. L&S activities under each theme are scheduled for 4 weeks or a month. At the end of every month, the teacher conducts a review to gauge each student’s competency in all 6 segments and asks the student to mark a tick in the Pragathi Nota after the successful completion of the activity. The student looks at the activity number on the card and marks his or her progress on the Pragathi Nota.

Use of RW Pragathi Nota

RW Pragathi Nota

RW Pragathi Nota carries the milestone numbers, card numbers, and logos. Students look at the Pragathi Nota and pick the corresponding card based on the logo.

Once they pick the card, they look for the thatte with the same logo and settle down there.

After they complete the activity pertaining to a particular step in the ladder, they put a  tick mark against the activity.

How is Pragathi Nota used by the teacher?

In a multigrade classroom setting, you will see the Pragati Nota hung at a convenient height to enable students to access it easily. The Pragati Nota helps the teacher in understanding the learning level of each child. The teacher reviews student work in thatte 2 and 3. and based on her inputs, students mark their Pragathi Nota. It is therefore very necessary that the Pragati Nota is updated after every session.

This video explains how Pragathi Nota is used in English Nali-Kali.
